I love creating teas to support my body's detox pathways. These herbs have specific properties that have been shown to benefit the body's detoxification process.
Proper detoxification means your gut and nervous system can work better, leaving you feeling refreshed, energized, and well-balanced.
It is not a magic drink that makes your body rid itself of the toxins in one sitting. It takes time to get the toxins out.
Additionally, our bodies are complex. The networks in our body work together. We want to gently support our body so that when one body part works more efficiently, the other parts of the body have time to "understand" what is going on.
This detox tea combines dandelion root, turmeric root, chickweed or cleaver, ginger, and cardamom into a well-balanced detox formula.
Each herb plays a specific role in assisting liver function, lymphatic drainage, and optimal cell function.
Herbs in The Tea
Dandelion Root
This herb stimulates bile production. Bile helps your liver break down fats and flush out waste. It is very powerful for eliminating gunk from the body.
Studies show dandelion root helps with blood purification and lymphatic drainage. This makes sense because lymph movement is necessary for clearing toxins from the blood.
I have found all parts of the dandelion to be very useful and powerful when it comes to helping the body heal.
Turmeric Root
This herb is an amazing anti-inflammatory. It contains curcumin, a compound known for reducing inflammation and protecting liver cells from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress can cause cell damage for a host of reasons.
Schisandra Berry
This berry adds a touch of sweetness to the other earthy ingredient flavors. It supports liver enzyme activity and helps the body manage stress responses. This is important during the detox process since you are helping to activate stagnant or underactive organs.
Cardamom
Cardamom is a great herb to use. It is subtle. However, it balances the tea with an understated spice flavor. Also, cardamom supports the digestive system and liver. It activates enzymes and protects cells from oxidative stress damage.
Cleavers
Supporting lymph drainage and reducing free radicals should be focused on when concocting a detox tea recipe. You want the liver and the lymph systems gently activated.
When these two systems are working better, your cells will be happier and are less likely to be damaged.
Now, one tea alone is not going to work a miracle, but adding this tea to a system of healthy choices will get you there.
Lemon Peel
Lemon peel is not a herb, but it is a powerful addition to this tea. It contains the compound d-limonene and bioflavonoids that assist the liver, help clear carcinogens, protect DNA, strengthen the gut lining, bind toxins to be efficiently removed from the body, and reduce inflammation. Now, who does not want to include this?
Avoid drinking it right before bed since chickweed and cleavers have mild diuretic properties. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking prescription medications, consult a healthcare provider before adding this tea to your routine. Turmeric can interact with blood thinners and certain liver medications.
What to Expect
This is not a quick-fix remedy. This is a gentle and supportive tea. Drinking this tea aids the body in the removal of toxins, providing you with a better state of health.
Continued drinking of the tea can build up effectiveness over time. Using this tea recipe along with other effective protocols will guide your body to better health.
This tea supports the body's processes. It does not replace them. Think of this tea as a tool in your health and wellness tool kit.
Collect and use these tools as needed and when appropriate. Wise and intentional lifestyle choices and practices together compound to give you the best results.
Mistakes To Avoid When Making The Detox Tea
Leaving the tea bag in too long can create a strong and bitter-tasting tea, and taking it out too soon will not provide you with the nutrients and chemical compounds necessary for the most effective detox.
Therefore, try to simmer the herbs in the hot water for between 10 and 12 minutes for the most effective outcome.
Also, feel free to adjust the measurements according to your liking. However, I suggest using the exact measurements the first time.
Lastly, you should strain the tea before drinking. A fine mesh can be used to catch any leftover plant particles that may be in the tea. This gives you a smoother cup of hot tea.
