Juicing Dandelion Greens & Cleansing Juice Recipe

Why is juicing dandelion greens a good idea? Because they are amazing leafy greens that add a variety of health benefits to super-charge a sick or healthy body.

Dandelion greens are one of my favorite vegetables to add to my juice, especially if I want to cleanse my body. It is not only a great way to add nutrients to your diet, but also to empower your body to fight sickness and disease.

Benefits of Juicing Dandelion Greens

  • High in Vitamins

These greens are rich in vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin K. These vitamins directly go to work helping the immune system, respiratory system, detoxification system, and many other functions of the body. 

  • A Great Source of Minerals

Not only do dandelion greens contain a plentiful amount of vitamins, but the mineral content is high as well. These plants contain calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, manganese, copper, silicon, sodium, and potassium. All of these are utilized by the body so many ways.

  • Research shows Cardiovascular protective properties

Studies are being done to show exactly how effective dandelion greens are in helping the cardiovascular system. Triglycerides and cholesterol levels have been lowered in studies with animals with the use of dandelion green extract. Additionally, the green's mineral content, potassium, may help with healthy blood pressure levels.

  • Full of Antioxidants (Great for Oxidative Stress)

Dandelion greens contain antioxidant properties, helping keep free radical production in check. An overload of free radicals on the body leads to disease and illness. The oxidative stress they produce on the body can also lead to hypertension.

Studies done on rats fed a high-fat diet indicated the strong potential for dandelion greens to reduce weight gain. The phenolic compounds in the plant show potential to help block fat absorption. Additionally, the plant helps to regulate not only lipid levels but also carbohydrate metabolism.

  • Liver protection

Another benefit to juicing dandelion greens is its liver protection attributes. The liver is very susceptible to damage from oxidative stress. Tissue and cell damage is caused by free radicals, an imbalance of oxygen molecules in the body. Studies show dandelion extract to be an effective preventative in liver disease.

  • Cleansing Effect on the body

Dandelion greens' diuretic effect makes it a great cleanser. Being diuretic means urine production is increased, flushing more toxins and waste out of the body. Also, the leaves' ability to activate better functioning of the liver adds to their cleansing ability. 

How to juice dandelion greens

I always thoroughly wash my vegetables prior to juicing. Also, the dandelion greens should be organic or from a source that is free from pesticides.

Adding the greens to a juice is easy. Simply push the amount that you want to add into the juicer. It is beneficial to add the greens near the beginning or middle of juicing to make sure that a fruit or vegetable with texture or high in water content is added after. This allows all the juice from the dandelion greens to incorporate into the final product.

What to pair dandelion greens with when juicing

Dandelion leaves are quite versatile and pair well with many fruits and vegetables. Pairing them will depend on different factors. These include what is in season and available, what health aspect you are targeting, and the flavor of juice you are looking for.

Grapefruit, asparagus, or collard greens are great pairings if you want extra liver assistance. However, if you are looking for a fruity taste, you can try pairing apples or grapes with the leaves. Add in some lemon and orange if you would like an immune system boost and body cleanse.

Healthy Dandelion Greens Juice

A refreshing and cleansing green juice with many overall health benefits.

Ingredients

  • 8 Dandelion greens leaves (1 Cup chopped)
  • 2 Mini Cucumbers
  • 1/2 cup parsley
  • 1 Green Apple
  • 1/2 Lemon with peel

Instructions

  1. Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly
  2. Cut fruits and vegetables to size according to what fits nicely into your juicer.
  3. Add fruits and vegetables in the order given, gently guiding them one at a time.
  4. Sift the juice into a glass
  5. Enjoy your juice.

Notes

Only juice organic fruits and vegetables and those free from pesticides.
