There are certain herbs that are more potent for this and these will be the ones explored. We personally love including a tea into a routine whether it be for digestion, relaxation, or anxiety.

Peppermint tea has been shown to help the gut in several ways. Animal studies have demonstrated the benefits this tea has had on the digestive tract. It can help with ailments such as irritable bowel syndrome, morning sickness, and stomach pain and abdominal pain caused by gas. It also is a helpful digestive aid.

Another great tea that promotes positive digestive health is fennel tea. This herbal tea helps with water tension and bloating, aids in the digestive process, and relieves digestive discomfort. The puritans used to use fennel as an appetite suppressant by chewing on fennel seeds.

Fennel also is known to help with food cravings and help with stomach cramps.

Dandelion tea is one of the best teas to drink for many aspects of digestive health.  It is has specifically been used in the past for stomach issues such as anorexia, an inflamed stomach lining, and digestive discomfort and bowel movements.


Additionally, dandelion is great for appetite stimulation. It helps with water retention as well. If you want to cleanse your body, then drinking a juice with dandelion greens is a good option to help the gut.

Licorice root is beneficial to drink for good gut health. This digestive tea has been used throughout history. The deglycyrrhizinated licorice form is most helpful in repairing the gut lining and soothing digestive problems.


Licorice is a very helpful tea to drink for stomach ulcers. You need to be aware, however, that licorice can enhance the effects of other herbs when used in combination together.

Black tea proves to be beneficial for gut health, although this is personally not my favorite tea to drink for it. One reason I have included it is because of the polyphenols it contains. Tannins, also known as polyphenols, positively impacts the gut lining and balances the gut microbiome helping to keep bacteria in check. 


A cup of black tea also contains theaflavin which is helpful with inflammation in the gut. Black tea has been also shown to help with an upset stomach, however, drinking large amounts of black tea have also been shown to cause upset stomach. Therefore, drink in moderation and do not overdue it.

Ginger root is a great tea to drink to support the digestion too. Gingerol, the active ingredient in Ginger root, supports the mobility of the digestive system.  This means it aids the movement of food throughout the gut and small intestine. This helps decrease nausea symptoms.  


Additionally, Ginger was used by the Greeks to help with intestinal parasites. Ancient India used it to treat upset stomachs. Also, ginger tea can aid in the healing process of infections in the gut. Motion sickness, morning sickness, nausea, and vomiting all can be settled by adding a ginger tea bag to a cup of hot water.

Lemon Balm Tea is helpful when used for nausea and digestive problems mainly due to stress. Lemon Balm is calming to the nervous system and may ease stomach problems in some cases. It particularly is helpful with colic and flatulence. There is some evidence showing that it helps with indigestion as well.

Goldenseal helps ease stomach troubles and is used as an appetite stimulant. It also aids the digestion process. Goldenseal became popular in the late 19th century when American doctors used this herb often for gut health. Keep in mind, however, that Goldenseal is bitter in taste, so you may want to add some honey for sweetness.
