Great Moisturizing Oils for hair

Almond Oil is extremely moisturizing due to its rich concentration of oleic and linoleic essential fatty acids.

This oil is also rich in vitamin E which repairs damaged and dry hair.  Therefore, it is very beneficial when used as a protectant against flat irons, curl irons, and blow dryers.  In addition, shine is a result of almond oil use.

Biotin is another attribute of this oil.  Although there is limited research for this, biotin has been shown in studies to promote  hair growth and strengthen hair strands.

Camelina Oil

This oil is not as well-known but is very effective when used as a moisturizing oil for hair.  It is very beneficial and nourishing for the scalp as well as hair brittleness.

Camelina oil is high in omega-3s allowing the oil to add necessary moisture to dry hair follicles while adding shine.

Another great attribute to this oil is its anti-oxidant activity which adds to the stability of camelina oil and lengthens shelf-life.

There are not a lot of scientific studies on the exact effects of camelina oil on hair, however, the beauty industry uses it often in hair products since the properties in camelina oil have proven to be useful to hair health.

Coconut Oil  (In moderation and for certain hair types)

Coconut oil has the ability to moisturize hair as well and is known for many health benefits.

The component lauric acid in coconut oil allows the strands of certain hair types to be protected and nourished.  It helps fine hair to build up protein creating shine and bounce.

However, people having thicker hair that is textured need to be aware that protein buildup will not allow moisture in.  This can create hair to become dryer.  This is dependent on hair type and the person's individual needs.

My daughter with a massive amount of fine hair likes to use coconut oil intermittently because it creates beautiful shine for her.  My other daughter with the thick, course, and textured hair uses a combination of oils and butters that better suits her hair type.

Trying oils out for small periods of time is best to see the moisturizing benefits.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a heavier, moisturizing oil.

This is a great oil option for textured and curly hair types.  It serves moisture barrier locking in moisture because it does not penetrate into the hair strands the same as other oils.

Although jojoba oil is labeled as an oil, it actually is a wax ester, which allows jojoba oil to coat the hair differently.

It is also found in many hair products on the market, usually combined with other oils and butters.

Jojoba oil seals in moisture making it effective on frizzy hair.  It is also full of vitamins and minerals necessary for good hair health.
