This recipe was created to help my daughter soften her lovely, course strands. Her hair favors my husband's thick, course, and textured hair type that can be sculpted so many ways. Although this can be a favorable characteristic, it also comes with challenges.

Her hair is prone to becoming frizzy and dry, especially with all of her artistic styling. This hair product was created to help protect her hair from becoming dry that results in frizz, a dry scalp, split ends, and damaged hair.

This Anti-Frizz hair serum will:

  • Soften Frizzy Hair
  • Help with dry scalp
  • Give you healthy hair

Are hair serums effective?

Hair serums can be very effective. Especially a hair serum recipe specific to your hair's needs. Shampoos, conditioners, the elements, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies affect hair health. Adding a quick hair spray serum will support hair health and provide extra moisture and smoothness to hair strands as well as the scalp. Certain oils work better depending on hair type and needs.

Oils Used in Hair Serum for Course, Dry, and frizzy hair

Two oils are used in this hair serum that specifically help treat course, frizzy, and dry hair. It is important to use trusted oil brands in your hair serum recipe.

There are other serums that use oils like castor oil and jojoba oil that also provide many wonderful benefits to a homemade hair serum for this hair type. However, castor oil tend to be a little heavier.

This DIY hair serum also doubles as a heat protectant serum. It is great for brittle hair and dry ends as well as fine hair and curly hair.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil adds shine and softness to the hair cuticle by adding lightweight moisture to the hair.  Therefore, course and dry hair types are both nourished and look more lustrous without being weighed down.

It also promotes scalp health with its antioxidant properties. Grapeseed oil's essential fatty acid content supports the blood circulation and blood flow of the scalp. It also aids in healthy hair growth when applied to the hair shaft.

These powerful antioxidants also reduce free radical damage, therefore protecting your hair from breaking and split ends. Frizz is therefore lessened by addressing these issues.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is also used in this wonderful and effective dry hair serum. This oil is known for reducing frizz when applied to hair. The reason for this is because it supplies the hair strands with moisture creating smooth and shiny hair. It also supports a healthy scalp when you add almond oil into your hair care routine.

Although this oil is a great way to condition all types of hair, it is the best oil for dry and course hair. It tames down frizz due to being so moisturizing, but it is also lightweight like grapeseed oil, making it a great leave-in conditioner.

This oil is rich in oleic and linoleic acids and antioxidants making it great for hair health. It also has antibacterial and has antifungal properties which are beneficial for fighting dandruff and dry scalp.

Best Ways to use hair serum recipe

  • Use when hair is dry and needs a little added moisture. This will give a softer, smoother texture.

  • Fine hair types should apply serum further away from hair for best results. This ensures that the hair will be evenly dispersed with the homemade serum.
