It is no secret that blueberries are a wonderful food to add into the diet. There are so many active compounds in this fruit that make it a health and healing powerhouse.

We add tea into our routine often, especially when sickness hits. However, adding a tea like blueberry tea into your regimen may help you avoid sickness and illness.

Blueberries can be found year-round for the most part. However, frozen berries can be interchanged as well. Organic or wild blueberries are the only ones that should be used to create an uncontaminated powerful fruit tea.

What is Blueberry Tea?

Blueberry tea is made from blueberry  juice. The blueberries are boiled until the berries break down. Then a strainer is used to gather the juice released from the berries.

The juice can be made using fresh blueberries or frozen blueberries. Then the juice is added to previously steeped herbal water. Combining the herbal tea with the blueberry juice creates blueberry tea.

The tea can be made using herbs and blueberry juice only, or opt-ins can be added such as spices like ginger or cardamom, fruits like lemon or orange, or a sweetener such as honey.

We use blueberries in many ways including blueberry leaves. Recently, I began making blueberry tea as another way to combine both herbs and blueberries into a powerful remedy for healthy living.

This does not necessarily mean blueberries will make weight loss occur, however, it does mean that blueberries can be beneficial in maintaining a healthy weight.

  • Helps with Oxidative Stress and Neutralize Free Radicals

Also, blueberries are filled with antioxidants and positively impact oxidative stress. They regulate immune cells which is beneficial with people who have an overactive immune system. All elements found in blueberry are shown to work together synergistically to do this.

Additionally, antioxidants of the fruit suppress oxidative stress levels and counteract radicals harming the body. This action protects the body from diseases and maintains overall immune health.

Another positive impact of blueberry consumption is lowered blood pressure. Firstly, it has been shown in controlled clinical trials that the vitamin C in blueberries has a positive impact on lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Secondly, the compounds in blueberries help blood vessel health. When blood is able to flow more easily through healthy blood vessels, blood pressure rates will also be at healthier levels.

  • Fights against harmful viruses

Blueberries contain flavonoids. These flavonoids are a type of antioxidant that protects the body from colds and viruses. The immune system is boosted with the intake of blueberries. Also, cells are protected lowering the risk of cellular damage that can lead to sickness.

  • great for energy levels

The antioxidants and phytochemicals in blueberries decrease inflammation in the body. When inflammation is decreased, the body is able to think better, the mood is elevated and stabilized, pain can be decreased, and the body feels overall better. All of these factors impact the energy levels of the body.

Additionally, the vitamin C levels and nutrients in blueberries increase energy levels in the body. They also maintain overall health, keeping energy levels more consistent.

  • Protects against urinary tract infections

Lastly, blueberries are good for kidney health. These berries contain anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial compounds that ward off bacteria and decrease inflammation in the urinary tract.

Also, blueberries are shown to have antibiofilm activity. This means that infectious bacteria may have more difficulty adhering to the walls of the urinary tract with the intake of certain compounds in blueberries.

Therefore, blueberries are shown to be a very beneficial food to consume when wanting to maintain a healthy urinary tract system.
