Mango is a fruit we began using often in our diet several years ago. My daughters are fans of mango fruit, and it is a well-tolerated fruit for the health issues my family faces.

It is great to eat as is, add to shakes, juice in a juicer, add to a fruit salad, or add to a savory dish. This fruit is very versatile. It offers sweetness packed with essential nutrients and essential vitamins.

The numerous health benefits of mango are due to its nutritional value. Most people tolerate the fruit well, however, it does have a higher intake of sugar. This is especially the case when it is juiced.

Although this is the case, they have a low glycemic index. This means they are absorbed slower than some fruits. Either way, take this into consideration depending on your blood sugar issues.

Mangoes are a sweet, succulent, and fibrous stone fruit grown in tropical and subtropical regions with India ranking top in production. Oxidative Stress Reducer

Mangoes are high in antioxidants. This makes it a great scavenger of free radicals present in the body reducing oxidative stress levels.

When oxidative stress and free radicals get out of control, disease and illness are more likely to occur. Mango juice helps the body to fight and neutralize these free radicals creating a healthy and balanced body.

Helps with Chronic Inflammation that leads to Chronic diseases

Inflammation is a common issue and leads to many problems in the body, especially when it becomes chronic inflammation. This study shows inflammatory markers being reduced in mice which was accredited to the polyphenol gallic acid present in mangoes.

Additionally, studies show mangoes are linked to helping reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines. Cytokines play an important role because they alert the body to health threats. However, mango juice's vitamins and bioactive phytochemicals help keep these cytokines in check and from becoming overactive.

Offers Digestive Health Benefits

Digestive problems are also targeted by the nutrients found in mangoes. Studies show that the polyphenols in mangoes help with gastric issues. Additionally, they have enzymes called amylase that help the digestive tract properly break down food.

Also, the mango juice contains insoluble fiber and the soluble fiber pectin. This allows for healthier bowel movements. This can be very beneficial to those who suffer from chronic constipation.

Anti-Aging Potential

In addition to helping with oxidative stress, antioxidants help with the body's aging process. One glass of mango juice is not going to turn back time and make you suddenly appear younger.

However, free radicals left out of control can prematurely age skin. Antioxidants present in the peel of the mango fruit like mangiferin protect liver health and aid glutathione production.

Glutathione is an amino acid that aids the liver in getting rid of toxins. Toxins cause premature aging and cellular damage. Mangiferin is shown to prevent cells from becoming damaged meaning less cellular damage.

Enhances Immune System Activity

Mangoes contain large amounts of both vitamins A and C. These vitamins are known to keep an immune system strong.

Also, vitamin C helps the body fight sickness and is important in the growth and repair of tissue. Vitamin C is also taken frequently to reduce colds.

However, an overactive immune system needs to proceed with caution when taking too much vitamin C. Consult a holistic or medical doctor for advisement.

Aids Heart Health

According to the American Heart Association, the vitamins and minerals in mangoes are great for heart health. For instance, the potassium in mangoes helps keep blood pressure under control and decreases the risk of heart disease.

Also, the magnesium and potassium levels in mangoes help regulate blood flow decreasing chances of high blood pressure.

Specifically, the potassium in mango juice helps the endothelial cells that line blood vessels to better regulate blood flow. It does this by relaxing the blood vessels.

Attributes to Skin Health

Skin health also benefits from drinking mango juice. The vitamin A present in mangoes is known to combat fine lines and wrinkles that develop on the skin.

Also, vitamin C helps fight skin damage due to the sun. These vitamins are strong contenders for maintaining healthy skin.

The other vitamins and minerals present in the fruit benefit skin health as well. For instance, vitamin E helps with hydration, beta-carotene fights against bacteria developing on the skin, and vitamin K is known to help with stretch marks.

Good For Brain Health

The polyphenols in mango show strong effects when it comes to protecting brain tissue and enhancing brain performance. For instance, this study shows improved cognitive performance due to the enhancement effects the mangoes' polyphenols have on neurotrophin activity in the brain.

The natural compound mangiferin that was previously mentioned has neuroprotective effects, helping to maintain proper function between the brain's neurons as well.

Although mango juice has proven benefits, mango leaf offers anti-inflammatory benefits that cannot be overlooked. Traditional medicine shows the leaves of mangoes to contain very high levels of polyphenols which are attributed to helping decrease inflammation in the brain. Therefore, all parts of the mango show great potential for brain health.

Helps reduce risk of certain cancers

Lastly, and also of vital importance, is the positive effect mango shows against cancer cells. These polyphenols seem to specifically target breast and colon cancer cells most effectively.

Another natural compound known as MF is present in mango juice. This compound stops the spreading of cancer cells. This health benefit of mango juice (mangoes in general) should not be overlooked, especially for anyone seeking natural preventative or intervening measures regarding cancer.

How To properly Juice Mango

  • Buy Organic Only- Juicing allows the vitamins and minerals to more directly be absorbed by the body due to taking out some of the fiber content. This is especially the case if you have a body that has difficulties with digestion. Organic ensures that the mango is safer for consumption.
  • Gently wash the fruit prior to juicing
  • Choose a ripe fruit that smells slightly sweet near the stem of the mango.
  • Look the mango over for bruising or dark spots
  • Leave the skin on the mango for extra nutrients
  • Gently cut the mango away from the seed
  • Optionally, you can add in other vegetables to offset the sugar intake and add a variety of nutritional components

Other Ways to Use Mango

Use the Mango leaves

health benefits of mango leaves

The leaves of a mango are very nutritious. They can be eaten alone, in salads, steamed, or in other side dishes.

Mango leaves' promising health benefits are coming to the forefront. They offer amazing nutritional value. These leaves contain vitamins A, B, C, and E and minerals such as phosphorous, iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and so on.

These vitamins and minerals as well as mango leaves' polyphenols and terpenoids offer the body strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. Additionally, the use of the leaves contributes to the benefits above.

Therefore, using the mango leaves in conjunction with the mango juice offers your body an abundant amount of health benefits including eye health.

Mango Leaf Tea

Another nutritional way to use the leaf of a mango is in a tea. Take the leaves and steep them in hot water as you would other herbal teas. This releases the leaves' medicinal properties into the water making for a healthy tea.

Mango Leaf Juice

A third way to effectively use mango leaves is as a juice. Simply take the mango leaf and soak it for 8-12 hours or overnight, and then squeeze the juice of the leaves. This juice can be drank as is or added to a mango juice drink.

Dried Mango Powder

You can also use mango in powder form. The powder can be added to shakes, soups, yogurt, smoothies, juices, etc. It easily adds nutritional benefit to whatever you are making.

Mango for tropical skin health

Lastly, I enjoy using mango butter in DIY remedies. It is both antibacterial and antimicrobial and feels good on the skin. Additionally, it helps greatly with dry skin because it locks in moisture without feeling too greasy. It adds a nice protective barrier to the skin, and can help heal certain rashes.
