Juicing is a great way to help your body heal from the negative effects of inflammation. Adding some of these recipes into your daily routine will reduce acute inflammation over time. 

Some people opt to do a juice detox by only drinking juices for a while. If you are considering this, then you need to thoroughly research or consult a health professional regarding side effects and appropriate juicing guidelines for your body.

The powerful antioxidant effects that one receives through juicing the right fruits and vegetables is remarkable for one's overall health. My family has benefited greatly from these juice recipes. It is amazing how eager my grown kids are to drink a juice because of the benefits but reminding them to take their vitamins is a an uphill battle.

  • Green Apple (Granny Smith)

Health Benefits Of Juice Ingredients

Cherries

Cherries are full of beneficial nutrients and anti-inflammatory compounds. They have been found in studies to reduce oxidative stress markers that lead to inflammation in the body. Blood pressure, sore muscles from exercise, and sleep were also aided by eating cherries. This particular study is based on a certain intake of cherries.

Also, this fruit is high in vitamin C and polyphenols (anti-inflammatory nutrients). These two things are known for successfully combating inflammation and free radicals that harm your health. 

Additionally, cherries are a good source of tryptophan, an amino acid that contributes to healthy serotonin and melatonin levels. All of these factors contribute to less stress in the body helping you with inflammation problems. Plus, the sweetness that cherries add to the drink makes it pleasant to the taste buds.

Granny Smith Apple

Another food that will add a slightly tart and sweet flavor to this anti-inflammatory juice recipe is a Granny Smith apple. You may substitute another apple such as an Applecrisp or Pink Lady. However, try to avoid apples that are high in sugar content such as Red Delicious.

Apples also contain antioxidants that fight inflammation. The antioxidants include quercetin, phloridzin, and catechin. They are shown to benefit cognitive abilities, gut health, and cell functioning due to their ability to fight free radicals and inflammatory conditions.

Watercress

Watercress is a water-based plant that offers a peppery taste similar to arugula but slightly more pronounced than arugula. That is why watercress balances the anti-inflammatory foods in this juice well. Besides, the powerful anti-inflammatory properties this vegetable offers cannot be beaten.

This veggie is a good source of vitamins A, C, and K. It also contains antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids that lower inflammation. Lastly, watercress provides the juice with minerals that a body prone to inflammation is usually lacking and in need of.

Substitute in arugula if watercress is unavailable.

Collard Greens

Another leafy green with great anti-inflammatory effects is collard greens. They are part of the cabbage family. This vegetable helps protect the body against systemic inflammation and protects cells from free radicals.

It is plentiful in vitamins and minerals that all reduce inflammation in the body. Some nutrients include vitamins C, A, K, calcium, magnesium, B-6, and folate. They are powerful in liver health, balancing cholesterol levels, heart health, and immune health.

Celery

Adding celery to this juice benefits the body with more inflammation-fighting vitamins and minerals. Also, celery has a high water content that increases the amount of juice. It also helps to move fruits and vegetables nicely through the juicer instead of sticking to the gears.

If you are a person who is allergic to celery or avoiding it, simply increase the number of cucumbers you use instead in place of the celery stalks.

Zucchini

Zucchini is another free radical combating fruit that is high in water content. It adds a lot of nutrients to the juice but does not alter the delicious flavor provided by the apple and cherries.

Its potent anti-inflammatory properties come from the inside and outside skin of the zucchini, therefore, there is no need to peel the vegetable before juicing it. 

This green vegetable adds a lot of health benefits to the immune system and is often a friendly food to add to an anti-inflammatory diet in general. This is because it is beneficial for fighting different autoimmune diseases due to its vitamin and mineral content and its antioxidant effects. 

Zucchini adds Vitamin B9 (Folate), Vitamin B6, Vitamin A, magnesium, and potassium to the diet as well as many other nutrients. I add this vegetable to many juices because it offers great anti-inflammatory benefits.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers are the last beneficial ingredient in this anti-inflammatory cocktail. Mini cucumbers are what I will be referring to. However, other cucumbers can easily be substituted. You will, however, need to accommodate for the size of the cucumber.

These vegetables are a great food for the skin and hydration levels. Cucumbers have been shown to help with blood pressure, weight management, and digestive health when added to a healthy diet.

Cucumbers also have been used to remove toxins from the body and balance inflammation in the body to healthy levels. Using them is a great way to increase juice output and get the most out of your juice ingredients.

Things to keep in Mind:

  • Juicing the ingredients in the order of the recipe allows for a more efficient juicing experience. However, many of the ingredients are higher in water content so the order is not as high of a priority as it would be with other juicing recipes.
  • All of your ingredients should be organic and washed or cleaned prior to juicing.
  • I keep the skins on in the recipe which does not make for as pretty of a juice. But I am going according to nutrient content that will best beat inflammation and be effective not a juice appearance contest.

Anti-Inflammatory Juice Recipe

Yield: 16 fl ounces

This juice may not look pretty in color, but it is very effective in fighting inflammation and getting inflammation under control.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Cherries
  • 1 Cup Watercress
  • 2 Mini Cucumbers
  • 2 Stalks Celery
  • 1.5 Cups Zucchini
  • 1/2 Green Apple

Instructions

  1. Clean veggies and fruits and pit cherries if necessary
  2. Cut veggies and fruit into chunks (This will vary depending on the type of juicer you are using)
  3. Juice the ingredients in the order given
  4. Strain the juice through a strainer as you pour it into a container or glass
  5. Enjoy the fresh anti-inflammatory juice

Notes

You may add the juice to a mason jar, seal it tightly, and put it in the refrigerator for later. However, make sure you fill the juice as close to the top as possible before putting the lid on. If you do not have enough juice to fill the jar, then either drink it right away, juice more juice to add to it or add filtered or spring water to the juice then put the top on.
