Vegan and Gluten Free Cream Of Celery Soup Recipe

This condensed vegan and gluten free cream of celery soup recipe is ideal to use in any cooking dish. Coconut milk replaces the dairy making this homemade soup recipe safe and vegan-friendly. Also, you can easily adapt it to make a cream of mushroom soup or cream of chicken soup. It is healthier and a more delicious soup than canned soup from a grocery store.

Being dairy and gluten-free meant creating a homemade version of gluten-free cream of celery soup that was also vegan. This recipe has a creamy texture and far surpasses any canned version. It also is an easy recipe that uses simple ingredients and is vey versatile.

  • Fresh Celery
  • Olive oil or Coconut Oil
  • Coconut Milk (or a plant-based milk of your choice)
  • Salt
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Gluten-Free Flour

How to Make The homemade Condensed cream of celery soup recipe

Step #1  Mince Fresh celery and Sauté

Mince the raw celery into tiny pieces. This Ninja Chopper is a great way to easily get the celery into small enough pieces. Alternatively, you can mince by hand or use a food processor.

Step #2  Sauté Celery in Oil

Sauté the celery with or without celery leaves in 2 tbs. of olive oil or coconut oil for approximately 4 minutes or until celery is softened. You may use a small to medium-sized pan for this. Do this over low to medium heat, depending on your stove.

Step #3  Add Coconut milk and Spices

Next, pour in the coconut milk, onion and garlic power, and salt and mix slightly.

Step #4  Whisk in the flour

Then add the gluten-free all purpose flour in gradually whisking until blended. This gluten-free flour blend is the perfect substitute for regular flour.

Step #5  Stir the mixture until thickened

Lastly, stir the soup until it reaches your desired thickness. You will want to make sure you stir it so it does not burn on the bottom. It does not take long to become thickened.

It will look similar to one of the canned variety of the classic cream of celery soup.

Step #6  Use or Store

Use this soup right away or store in an airtight container, (preferable a glass jar or glass container). It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. However, you can also put it in a freezer-safe container and store in the freezer for up to 3 to 5 months.

Canning jars work well for this recipe. It makes between approximately 3 cups of condensed cream of celery soup. Do note, there is some separation during the freezing process. However, it does not interfere with the taste or dish that it is added to.

  • 2 large Stalks Celery
  • 2 Tbs. Olive Oil or Coconut Oil
  • 2.5 cups Coconut Milk
  • 5 Tbs Gluten Free Flour
  • 1-2 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1/4 tsp. Garlic Powder


  1. Mince celery into tiny pieces.
  2. Sautee the celery in the olive oil until tender.
  3. Add the coconut milk to the pan as you heat the mixture over low heat.
  4. Add the onion powder, garlic powder, and salt to the milk mixture.
  5. Whisk in the flour.
  6. Whisk gradually until thickened or until the consistency you want it.


Keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

This vegan gluten free cream of celery soup recipe is great because it uses basic ingredients but can be used so many ways. To give it additional flavor, try replacing a 1/4 cup of the coconut milk with vegetable stock or vegetable broth. You could even use chicken stock if you are only dairy-free but not vegan.

Mushrooms can be used in place of the celery. In order to make cream of mushroom soup, simply replace the celery with 1 cup of finely diced sauteed mushrooms.

Also, olive oil or coconut oil is used in this recipe. However, if you prefer to use a vegan butter option, that will work as well.
